Raising Awareness
Sources of research in recent years have identified that many people experiencing problems dealing with debt do not know where to go for help, for example in negotiating with a creditor, resolving an eviction notice, finding out about out benefits entitlements.
We aim to improve awareness through a number of co-ordinated public information campaigns that promote access to:
a wide range of national resources such as telephone or internet information and advice
the network of high quality local advice providers: independent advice agencies, Citizens Advice Bureaux, Law Centres and Solicitors providing funded Legal Help
financial inclusion initiatives and financial products may also help, for example basic bank accounts, savings schemes and low-cost loan options available through Community Credit Unions
Some campaigns, for example our Home Loser Loan campaign, also concentrate on reducing or compounding debt problems through highlighting financial policy or practice that can affect people, for example consolidation loans.
Our work is taken forward in various ways:
Setting up new Information Points
Producing and distributing posters and leaflets
Through local events
The sub-sections here, listed in the left menu, provide details of each campaign and who to contact if you are interested in further details.
